The Future of the Inland Waterways

Did you know that over half the population of this country lives within 5 miles of an inland waterway?

 You may also know about the media speculation that the Government intends to include the British Waterways’ property portfolio as a component of the £16bn asset sale.

 The Government has made no announcements and is steadfastly refusing to be drawn on the subject.

Tuesday 17th November Andrew Lound - Calling the Cosmos

"We were entertained last night by Andrew Lound who took us 'Calling the Cosmos' 
and inviting the question "is anybody out there?"  Andrew's presentation style, 
knowledge and his great enthusiasm about astronomy and the universe made
for a very interesting and informative evening and certainly I believe everyone
went away with plenty of food for thought."

Tuesday 3rd Novemebr Alan Birch - A Cruise to the Baltic

Alan Birch gave members a very informative and interesting talk about his trip to the Baltic to join the Cruising Association Rally there in 2008.  Alan had said he didn't have much material but clearly a great deal of thought and preparation had gone in to pass on so many good tips and 'lessons learned'.

Vince Williams and Jon Goodson opened our season for us with a very informative and entertaining presentation about the “Idle Women” of the Grand Union Canal.  Vince and John told, to a full club room, how the “Idle Women” came to be. How in the war years, amidst great danger they ran the narrow boats down the canal between Birmingham and London. Often carrying munitions.
