Despite Arctic conditions there was a good turn out for our members night this year.
Bernard, from his days as a Glider Pilot Instructor gave us a fascinating insight into the day of a typical gliding instruction outing. "First get your victim then bolt the plane together!" He recalled the days of going solo for the first time when the canopy was shut above you and you looked up to realise the Instructor was outside the aircraft and you were on your own. He told how the "Tug" plane would sometimes have to ditch the glider as being the safest option! Not for the faint hearted but very exhilarating and often a beautiful way to view the country side.
Bob gave a presentation about the Club website showing some of the detail and information now available. He pleaded for people to use it. In the long term it will be a very useful tool for us to use to communicate and indeed help to run and manage the club. He concluded wih some photos and movies, some from the website, of the Tall Ships Funchal 500 race from Falmouth to Funchal via Portugal in September 2008.
Ken finished the night with a nautical numbers quiz. This was a very well devised quiz all about nautical measurement and dates of maritime achievements. The Quiz was hotly contested but Alan was a clear winner!
Well done to Alan. We look forward to the next round!
