Tuesday 6th March Chris Allen Steamships Through the Ages

Chris Allen gave us a splendid presentation last week with his talk about steamships through the ages. He covered in great detail the very first steamships leading up through paddle steamers to modern day warships. Chris has an impressive knowledge of all things powered by steam! He's the Editor of the Bulletin of the International Stationary Steam Engine Society and associated with the Clay Mills Pumping Engines Trust. A splendid evening illustrated by some wonderful photos.

Members Night and Quiz 6th January 2009

Despite Arctic conditions there was a good turn out for our members night this year.

Bernard, from his days as a Glider Pilot Instructor gave us a fascinating insight into the day of a typical gliding instruction outing. "First get your victim then bolt the plane together!" He recalled the days of going solo for the first time when the canopy was shut above you and you looked up to realise the Instructor was outside the aircraft and you were on your own.
